3 tips for getting a ‘mommy makeover’

One increasingly common practice in plastic surgery is  the “mommy makeover.” This series of procedures helps mothers regain their physique and looks after giving birth — a process that can take a great toll on the entire body, particularly the abdomen, breasts and legs. From a tummy tuck to breast reduction, more women are considering cosmetic surgery as a way to regain the body they had before getting pregnant, but there are a few things to keep in mind when electing for a “mommy makeover.”

If you’re considering a series of procedures following your pregnancy, consider these three helpful tips:

Don’t neglect the face – When you’re discussing which operations to have done with your plastic surgeon, don’t forget to discuss a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation needs as well. Laser skin resurfacing, dermal fillers or a neck lift could help retain that youthful glow that sleepless nights and the stresses of being a new mother can affect.

Perform as many procedures as safely possible at one time – If you’re electing for several plastic surgery procedures, discuss getting them done all at one time with your surgeon. He or she will be able to tell you how many are safe to perform, but having them all done at once allows you to undergo just one general anesthetic, one healing time, one postoperative follow-up period and one period of time off of work, minimizing overall recovery time.

Plan for rest afterward – Getting any plastic surgery procedure done requires rest time afterward, but this goes double for a “mommy makeover.” Not only will you be getting multiple procedures done at once, but your body has also just gone through a pregnancy, meaning it may require extra time to heal. Consider taking a week off from work, and limit activity to very light work for the next six to eight weeks with no heavy lifting at all during that time frame.
