Botox provides many anti-aging and other cosmetic benefits to those looking to enhance their appearance. From eliminating wrinkles and fine lines to reducing the visibility of muscle bands in the neck, Botox has applications for patients of all ages. However, if you’re considering Botox for the first time there are a few factors to consider.
One thing to keep in mind is that Botox isn’t necessarily the right procedure for younger patients. If you start having bags appear under your eyes or wrinkles it could be because of lifestyle choices, rather than signs of aging. These can be reversed through eating better or getting enough sleep, so consider those avenues first. However, if Botox is the right procedure for you, here are five tips for your first appointment:
Choose your doctor carefully – While Botox is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure, it still needs to be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon. Make sure you’re selecting a reputable, skilled doctor to perform any cosmetic operations, whether it’s rhinoplasty or an injectable.
Consider alternatives – There are alternatives to Botox that perform the same or similar functions. Options like dermal fillers or Dysport provide very similar changes to your appearance, so make sure to discuss all of your options with your selected surgeon before the procedure.
Don’t do it because someone else is – One of the most important things to keep in mind is that you shouldn’t get plastic surgery because someone else is, or because someone else said you should. You should do it for yourself. If you aren’t getting a procedure done because it’s what you want, you’ll never be happy with the results.
Don’t plan a big event afterward – While Botox is cosmetic surgery with quick recovery, you will won’t want to plan any same day activities afterward. Free up your schedule and take the rest of the day off to relax. Some people also experience mild bruising after their first experience, so you may want to avoid any big events until this as healed.
Plan on regular injections – The effects of Botox do wear off over time, so when investing in injections you do need to keep in mind that this is a procedure that needs to be repeated for lasting changes. Many patients end up scheduling injections for every three months to maintain the improvements to their appearance.
