Brow Lift

Brow Lift Introduction

Your eyes and forehead are some of the first areas to show the effects of aging. Over time, the brow can begin to sag, causing a tired, angry, or aged appearance that doesn’t reflect how you truly feel. A brow lift at Maryland Plastic Surgery is a subtle yet powerful way to refresh your look, lifting the brows to a more youthful position and smoothing forehead lines for a naturally rejuvenated appearance. Led by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Adam Summers, our team offers personalized brow lift solutions that enhance your features while maintaining your natural beauty.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, sometimes called a forehead lift, is a surgical procedure designed to elevate the eyebrows and restore a smoother, more refreshed appearance to the upper face. By gently repositioning the skin and underlying tissues, a brow lift can reduce forehead wrinkles, soften frown lines between the eyebrows, and lift sagging brows that may be hooding the upper eyelids. This procedure not only helps you look younger but also more approachable and alert.

Types of Brow Lifts

Various types of facelifts depend on the patient’s individual needs and medical history. At Maryland Plastic Surgery, your dedicated surgeon will help you choose the best option for you.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

An endoscopic brow lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a small camera (endoscope) and specialized instruments inserted through tiny incisions hidden in the hairline. This technique allows Dr. Summers to lift and reposition the tissues with less scarring, shorter recovery time, and highly natural-looking results.

Coronal Brow Lift

A traditional or coronal brow lift involves making an incision across the top of the scalp, usually hidden behind the hairline. This approach is ideal for patients who need more significant correction, such as individuals with a very low or heavy brow. It allows for a more comprehensive lifting and smoothing of the forehead area.

Temporal (Lateral) Brow Lift

A temporal or lateral brow lift focuses on lifting only the outer parts of the eyebrows, creating a more subtle and natural-looking arch. This procedure is perfect for patients who are mainly concerned with sagging at the outer corners of the brow without needing full forehead correction.

What Are The Benefits Of A Brow Lift?

A brow lift offers more than just cosmetic improvement—it restores a sense of vitality and openness to your entire face. By carefully lifting and repositioning the brow, patients often find they look not only younger but also more relaxed and refreshed. Many patients also experience functional benefits, such as improved vision when sagging brows are reduced.

Benefits of a brow lift include:

  • Lifting sagging or heavy brows for a naturally youthful appearance

  • Reducing forehead wrinkles and smoothing horizontal lines

  • Softening deep frown lines between the eyebrows

  • Opening up the eyes to create a more vibrant, rested look

  • Enhancing the natural arch and contour of the brow

  • Providing long-lasting, natural-looking rejuvenation

  • Improving visual fields if brow sagging obstructs the eyelids

Who Are The Best Candidates For A Brow Lift?

Ideal candidates for a brow lift are individuals who are noticing changes in the upper face that make them look tired, sad, or older than they feel. Whether you are experiencing drooping brows, deep forehead lines, or heaviness around the eyes, a brow lift could help restore a more youthful, alert appearance. A personal consultation with Dr. Summers is the best way to determine if a brow lift is right for you.

You may be a good candidate for a brow lift if you:

  • Have sagging or drooping eyebrows

  • Notice deep forehead wrinkles or horizontal lines

  • Experience heavy upper eyelids due to low brow position

  • Have frown lines or “11s” between the eyebrows

  • Are in good general health and a non-smoker

  • Have realistic expectations about surgical outcomes

  • Wish to refresh your appearance without looking “overdone”

LET’S GET YOU STARTED

What's The First Step?

On the day of your surgery at Maryland Plastic Surgery & PURE MedSpa, you’ll be welcomed into our state-of-the-art surgical suite by Dr. Summers, Dr. Spittler, and our experienced clinical team. Before your procedure begins, we’ll review your surgical plan with you once more — giving you a final opportunity to ask questions or share any last-minute thoughts. Our goal is to ensure you feel completely comfortable, confident, and cared for every step of the way.

A board-certified anesthesiologist will then administer the appropriate anesthesia, which will have been carefully selected and discussed during your consultation to ensure a pain-free, relaxed experience throughout your procedure.

Once your ideal results have been achieved, your surgeon will carefully close the incisions using advanced suturing techniques designed to support healing and minimize visible scarring. In some cases, a small drain may be placed to prevent fluid buildup and support a smoother recovery process.

Brow Lift procedures typically take between one to two hours, depending on the complexity of your surgical plan and any complementary procedures being performed.

What To Expect On The Day Of Brow Lift Surgery

Your brow lift will be performed at our private, state-of-the-art surgical suite in Millersville, MD. Depending on the technique chosen, the procedure typically takes about 1 to 2 hours. Dr. Summers will mark the incision sites and review the surgical plan with you before beginning. Most brow lifts are performed under IV sedation or local anesthesia with sedation, meaning you can avoid the risks of general anesthesia.

After surgery, you’ll spend a short time in recovery before being discharged to rest comfortably at home. You will need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.

Brow Lift Recovery

You can expect some mild swelling, bruising, and tightness in the forehead area following your brow lift. These symptoms are normal and usually begin to subside within the first week. Most patients feel comfortable returning to normal daily activities within 7 to 10 days, though vigorous exercise should be avoided for a few weeks.

Dr. Summers will provide you with detailed post-operative instructions, including how to care for your incisions and when to return for follow-up visits. Final results will continue to improve over several months as the tissues heal and swelling fully resolves.

Browlift FAQ's

Is a Brow Lift painful?

Most patients experience only mild discomfort after a brow lift, which is easily managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. Tightness and slight tenderness around the forehead are common during the first few days but quickly improve.

While a brow lift cannot stop the natural aging process, most patients enjoy the benefits for 10 to 15 years or longer. Proper skincare and a healthy lifestyle can help extend your results even further.

Absolutely. Dr. Summers specializes in creating natural-looking results that refresh and rejuvenate your appearance without making you look overdone, surprised, or “pulled.”

A brow lift targets the forehead and eyebrow position, while eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) removes excess skin and fat from the upper or lower eyelids. In some cases, combining the two procedures provides the best overall rejuvenation.

Incisions are carefully placed within the hairline or along natural creases of the forehead, making scars very discreet once healed. Over time, they typically fade to become nearly invisible.

Most patients feel comfortable returning to work and light activities within 7 to 10 days after surgery. However, you should avoid strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for a few weeks to ensure optimal healing.

Yes, treatments like BOTOX® can provide a temporary “chemical brow lift” by relaxing specific muscles to subtly lift the brow. However, surgical brow lifts offer more dramatic, longer-lasting results.

Yes. A brow lift can significantly smooth forehead wrinkles and frown lines by tightening the underlying tissues and skin. For deeper lines, Dr. Summers may recommend combining your lift with other treatments like neuromodulators or skin resurfacing.

You will receive detailed pre-operative instructions, which typically include avoiding certain medications, stopping smoking, and arranging for someone to drive you home and assist you for the first 24 hours after surgery.

An endoscopic brow lift is less invasive, using small incisions and a camera to adjust the underlying tissues. A traditional (coronal) brow lift involves a longer incision across the scalp and may be recommended for patients who need more significant correction.
