Study: Kate Middleton, Scarlett Johansson, have perfect noses

Rhinoplasty‘s popularity is unbridled, but as women select a variety of nose types, a recent study has revealed the specifics behind the “perfect nose.” According to a team of plastic surgeons who published their findings in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, the ideal nose is “slightly upturned at an angle of 106 degrees.” Previously, the range was considered to be between 95 and 110 degrees. This nose angle is shared by celebrities like Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Biel, Kate Bekcinsale and Kate Middleton.

“Today we are making a nose that is best for that face, so people compliment them on their lovely smile or beautiful eyes as the face as a whole looks good. The angle of the nose is only one of the variants used in a personalized approach,” Charles East, of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, told The Daily Mail regarding the study.

The study consisted of around 4,000 poll takers viewing a series of photographs and ranking the attractiveness of the women in them. The averages were taken, and the facial profiles of the women, most of whom were celebrities, were then recorded. Nose angle in particular was the focus.

The angle of the nose is measured from the upper lip to the nasal tip, with the degree being the angle of upward turn at the end. The highest average rankings were of women near the 106 degree angle.

“Throughout history artists and scholars have been engrossed in the pursuit of capturing what constitutes beauty,” said the study’s author Dr. Omar Ahmed, according to Time.
