Demand for Brazilian butt lifts skyrockets in the U.S.

With celebrities like JLo, Nicki Minaj, Kim Kardashian, Iggy Azalea and Beyonce making headlines this year, 2014 has been deemed the year of the butt. As a result, more American women are clamoring for a buttocks augmentation procedure nicknamed the “Brazilian butt lift.”

The Brazilian butt lift involves transferring fat from other areas of the body, like the thighs, abdomen or hips, and purifying and reinjecting it into the buttock region for more prominent and defined buttocks that appear perkier and more youthful. Many women also enjoy the enhanced profile this procedure gives them.

“Over the past decade, we’ve seen a cultural shift toward a greater acceptance of and a desire for a rounder, more prominent derriere in specific regions across the country,” said Dr. Jack Fisher, president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), “so the increase in buttock augmentation procedures is not that surprising.”

In fact, according to ASAPS, buttock augmentation procedures in the United States have increased by 58 percent, as women are increasingly embracing a more curvaceous body ideal.

“It’s with J. Lo, and Beyonce, and everyone else having a great derriere,” added another plastic surgeon to NBC News. “I think people see that and they want to mirror image it.”
