New year’s resolutions for better skin

Consider the following new year’s resolutions for embracing your skin and treating it better.

Can you believe another year has come and gone? It feels like just yesterday you were welcoming spring with open arms, but now you’re getting ready to open up the presents under the Christmas tree and celebrate at midnight on New Year’s Eve.

With the new year comes an opportunity for a refresh – to set new goals, find a new purpose in life and embark on new adventures with family and friends. This is a great time to start thinking about setting a new year’s resolution as well. Instead of taking the traditional route and setting on a cliche goal like saving money and losing weight, why not focus on the wellness of your complexion instead?

How will you make 2019 the year you and your skin shine brighter than ever before? Consider the following new year’s resolutions for embracing you skin and treating it better:

Wear sunscreen regularly
Just because it’s not as sunny and warm outside during the early months of the year, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply sunscreen. Make matters easier on yourself by investing in a moisturizer of bb cream with at least SPF 30 in it so you don’t have to worry about adding another product to your beauty regimen.

Wash your face twice a day
Cleansing once in the morning and again at night is critical to ridding your pores of the toxins you face daily. But don’t just slather on any old cleanser and expect flawless skin. Step things up a notch and invest in cleanser that is designed to work with your skin type.

Exfoliate regularly
Just as important as cleansing, exfoliation takes a deeper dive into your complexion, buffing out the dead skin cells that keep your face from looking its best. If you have sensitive skin, try to exfoliate at least once a week. If your skin type is more strong and unresponsive to exfoliating, you may consider trying it every other day.

Moisturize after bathing
Moisturizing after you get out of the shower is especially important during the winter. Since you’re more likely to use hot water while your bathe, your skin will be more prone to drying out if you don’t moisturize. Leave a nourishing lotion near your towel so you always remember to apply it as soon as you dry off.

Take your makeup off every night
We’ve all been there: Making it into the bed, snuggling up under the blankets only to realize the night’s makeup is still gleaming from ear to ear. Let 2019 be the year you stop brushing it off and going to sleep anyway. It’s time to get out of bed and wash your face! Neglecting to do so will clog your pores and could lead to harsh acne. Digital graphic designer Amanda Becker told Bustle vowing to take her makeup off of her face at night is a great resolution to start with for better skin care.

“Neglecting to take your makeup off before bed clogs your pores.”

“I’ve always had pretty good skin, but I want to take time to invest in myself to make sure everything stays in tip top shape,” says Becker. “I’ve started experimenting with a regimen that works for me, and I’m committing time to take care of myself I’m starting simple, which means I’ll take my makeup off and wash my face every night.”

Gift yourself a skin treatment
